Whenever I listen to Bombino, I immediately begin to feel light, yet emotionally moved. There is a meditative quality to the Niger based artist’s music, almost as though its providing a window to look into something timeless and deeply instilled into our souls.
“Ténéré” is from the 2010 album Agamgam 2004. It’s a beautiful song that embodies the expansiveness of wherever it was created. I imagine a handful of travelers sitting down by the fire after a long day and sharing a moment together when I hear it.
And by the way, Bombino can absolutely shred on the guitar when he wants to. His 2013 album, Nomad, features mostly electronic guitar and some chops that would make Robert Plant tip his cap.
I know this isn’t technically new, but I imagine very few of you reading this have listened to Bombino before and with all that’s happening in the world I believe expanding outside of our usual comfort zones is a great way for us to all get more connected. So enjoy!
