When KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic host calls you one of his favorite bands he heard at SXSW, its a really good sign. The London based Boxed In, consisting of Oli Bayston, Liam Hutton, Mark Nicholls, and Jack Benfield, definitely earn the title. Their track “Mystery” is proof.
What makes “Mystery” work so incredibly is a balance between catchy-as-all-hell while still having the sonic craftsmanship and complexity of a Thom Yorke or Aphex Twin. When you make pop music this well, it can be lethally infectious. Like Walter White’s blue meth or Space Mountain, when something is so fun to partake and created with this much genius behind it, it’s nearly chemically impossible not to become addicted to.
