After delaying their highly anticipated debut studio album not once but twice, Knife Party surprised fans by leaking Abandon Ship two weeks early. Knife Party is an Australian duo consisting of two members from the drum and bass band Pendulum, Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen. Past releases from these two have consisted of mostly electro house and dubstep, but Abandon Ship shows that they can produce a wide variety of genres.
Bonfire is arguably this duo’s most well-known and popular track, and Give It Up is Bonfire 2.0. Give It Up has the same rasta feel in the beginning and then lays into some dirty, filthy, dubstep. I have a strong inclining that this song is going to be played heavily at festivals and shows across the world over the next year.
Last year Knife Party released EDM Death Machine which was straight fire, and now they are at it again with EDM Trend Machine. This track has a deep house undertone , and the idea behind it was to make fun of the big room/progressive house trend that is currently taking over electronic music.
Boss Mode was leaked last month but after hearing the rest of the album it still remains in my top three. Rob and Gareth dabbled in trap, creating a compelling sound that is similar to a dark video game thats stuck in boss mode.
