Austin, TX psych-chillers, Pure X dropped their new album, Angel, earlier this week, and the title is fitting. On Angels, the trio tames some of the foggy dread of their earlier releases, creating a more soulful, lofting sound.
“Starlight” kicks the album off with a beautiful, Lynchian strum of the guitar and patient chimes, while gentle grooves ooze melancholically. Nate Grace’s narcotic falsetto then chimes in “starlight in your eyes, show me the way to your love”. It’s a simple, yet poignant sonic and lyrical combination, but one that works. “Starlight” and Angel as a whole, is the music of moods. Adjust the volume higher or lower, dim the lights, and burn some incense, these are sounds to be experienced.
