As of late, I’ve been on a bit of an electronic leaning music kick, which has been nice, expanding my tastes and appreciation for new types of music. I’ve always been a big fan of Spoon and their no bullshit form of rock. Hearing their new track “Rent I Pay” once was like a bucket of ice water to the face, taking me back to a more wide-eyed, drunker time in my life when I first fell in love with Spoon (“Written in Reverse” remains an all time favorite) and indie rock in general.
The track is from the upcoming album They Want My Soul, one of 2014’s most anticipated albums out August 5th.
“Rent I Pay” proves yet again that Spoon is in a league of their own when it comes to killer rhythms. The Bonham-esque drums, dirty guitar, and Britt Daniel’s raspy voice all work in beautiful syncopation. It makes me really happy.
