What happens when you mix Congolese guitar, some bouncy hip-hop beats, and Bamboo‘s smooth Swahili rapping? Why, Im glad you asked! You get a vitamin C-infused jam that will immediately make you wish you weren’t at your computer reading a blog, but rather coasting along the beach on a bike or dancing on a humid night in a far away land.
Bamboo is a Inglewood, CA native, who after getting in trouble a lot as a kid, was sent to Kenya by his parents where he learned to speak Swahili. He decided to mix his love of hip hop with the beautiful language of his new surroundings, fusing the two into something very unique and incredibly pleasing to the ear. Hats off to K da Great for his sampling of Congoloese guitar legend Franco, providing a beautiful canvas for Bamboo to flow over.
“My goal in music is to share it with as much of the world as possible, and use it to inspire people positively around the world.” says Bamboo. Certainly something that we can all get behind. Bibi Yangu achieves this mission with flying colors.
Bamboo is currently in Nairobi finishing recording for his next album. If you are digging this, you should definitely keep an ear out for him.
