Forbidden Fruit

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, CAN I PLEASE HAVE YOUR ATTENTION. I’VE JUST BEEN HANDED AN URGENT AND TERRIFIC HIP-HOP NEWS STORY. I NEED ALL OF YOU TO STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND LISTEN.

While that preface won’t lead into a cannonball like the man the myth the legend Ron Burgandy, it will serve as my intro to giving you J. Cole’s most anticipated track off Born Sinner. Cole has been hard at work prepping for the June 18th release of his second studio album and we’ve kept up on all the latest from the project. Now, I present to you: Forbidden Fruit featuring Kendrick Lamar.

“Me and my bitch, took a little trip/Down to the garden, took a little dip/Apple juice falling from her lips took a little sip/Little sip”

The opening lines creep along with guitar strums to open this collaboration with two of hip-hop’s best poets. While Kendrick offers strong support by echoing the opening lines throughout the song’s choruses, it’s Cole who shows us how serious he is about his latest work. Instruments are added and dropped throughout the song and Cole is never out of sync with the beat. He takes advantage of every gasp of air he gets, unleashing relentless flows with fierce delivery.

“Take a seat baby girl you’ve been all in my mind/I know I ain’t called gotta pardon my grind/Just copped a maroon 5, no Adam Levine/Came a man by myself, only father was time”

Can’t nobody argue with that my man. Enjoy this taste of Born Sinner to start off your Saturday.
