LANKS is Will Cuming, a Melbourne based producer and artist who came to prominence last year after releasing the stellar Thousand Piece Puzzle EP. Then, in November, LANKS dropped Beach Houses, a downtempo electronic cut that made it onto a couple Best Tracks of 2014 listicles. That track galvanized LANKS’ unique sound, a thoughtful mix of electronic elements, Eastern-influenced audio loops, and soulful vocals. Live instrumentation seemed to take a back seat to more buzz-worthy composition elements, but that was then and this is now.
LANKS’ new single, Hold Me Closer, incorporates more live instrumentation than any of his past offerings. LANKS croons over a whining vocal loop and driving guitar riff while pulsing samples weave in and out on the low end of the mix. It shows clear development when you put it up against LANKS’ earlier stuff. The teetering balance of the myriad facets of the track blend together to create an anthemic follow-up to Cuming’s acclaimed 2014 releases. Take a listen to Beach Houses and Hold Me Closer below. If you’re into it, both are available as free downloads for a limited time. Enjoy The Eargazm!
