TDE has popped another hot posse collabo out from the oven and it’s very tasty. You want some tasty Collard Greens (wink wink) you say? Got you covered. ScHoolboy Q recruited Kendrick Lamar for this shit spittin weed anthem produced by close associates Gwen Bunn and T.H.C. The song is the second single, after the coke-dedicated Yay Yay, that we are hearing from the rapper’s upcoming album, Oxymoron. Q really enjoys showing love for his drugs. If you don’t know, now you know.
As far as I’m concerned Q is batting 1000% in regards to what he’s revealed from the Oxymoron tracklist. Both Yay Yay and Collard Greens are rich with Q’s vocal diversity on top of beats whose layers of instruments provide a depth that requires a few listens to fully process. A mouthful I know, but every word of appraisal has been well earned by Q.
Although we have heard a few or fifteen songs by Q centered around substances, the ones strictly about marijuana seem to be rarer. EVERY rapper has their go at their love for weed in the booth at some point. Q took his turn and undoubtedly conquered it, presenting a hypnotizing chorus between verses with well-delivered fluent bars. Kendrick, after speaking six bars in Spanish, hops in the middle to match the energy of his teammate. You can certainly ask “what CAN’T Kendrick do?” by now, but Q really showed off his unique style on Collard Greens. This one has gotten me even more excited for his third upcoming studio solo. Prepare accordingly.
Press play, spark some Collard Greens, and stay tuned for more off Oxymoron. Get Your Earz Wet!
