I’ve been digging into the Brooklyn scene lately past Hov, Talib, and Joey Bada$$ and the city’s vault is full of eargazmic gold. The very creative MC Skyzoo has been in the game since 2006 and hasn’t stopped pushing limits since. His recent work includes a series titled Band Practice in which the artist spits over live recordings of jazz ensembles, putting out a new track every Tuesday. Today marked the second installment of the series with the release of Grew Up On Kool-Aid. Sky lays down a set of autobiographical bars over a production brought to us by the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble to deliver a completely raw, completely dope horn-heavy collaboration. Skyzoo will further implement his integration of hip-hop and jazz at a live concert in NYC on February 19th. This shit is awesome, you guys. Stepping out of the box to deliver real material over some beautiful ensemblage. Stay tuned for the rest of the Band Practice series and Get Your Cochleaz Wet.
