The Smith Westerns are back with new appropriately-titled single Varsity from their forthcoming LP Soft Will. This will be their third album and a noticeable shift in the band’s sound. Whereas their last album Dye It Blonde will be remembered for it’s soaring, anthemic riffs and choruses, Varsity shows the band growing into itself and tightening up their sound. However, the band retains their youthful, starry-eyed charm that has gotten them to where they are now. They will be playing Coachella in April and I’d have to imagine beginning a tour in support of Soft Will which comes out June 11th via Mom + Pop.
