Surfer Blood has released another track from their upcoming album Pythons, titled “Gravity”. The Florida rockers have some pretty gigantic shoes to fill in for there sophomore EP titled Pythons. Astro Coast was a mighty album that instantly became a favorite of anyone that gave it a spin. The new material is only further proof that Surfer Blood makes straight-forward, tenacious pop-rock that simply works.
“Gravity” is definitely a Surfer Blood song, but certainly on the sweeter, more flowery side of their spectrum. Don’t be fooled though, crunchy guitar riffs and pounding drums give this song proper bite. Surfer Blood’s pop sensibilities are undeniable in “Gravity”. The track is a love tune about long distance relationship that seems to be working out okay, which doesn’t seem to usually be the case.
Based on what we have heard from previous material from Pythons the band has really expanded its range. “Demon Days” is a fuzzy track that dabbles in screamo. “Slow Six” has a slow-burning alt-metal feel to it. “Weird Shapes” sounds like a lost Strokes track. Overall, I would say that “Gravity” is my favorite material since Astro Coast came out in 2010.
Pythons comes out June 11th via Warner Brothers Records. The band has a handful of dates in the meantime, including a June 5th show at The Granada in Lawrence, KS. Check out “Gravity” below and head to their website to pre-order the album and check out more band info.
