My Aussie buddy Kubi Vasak down under at The A&R Records hooked me up with the label’s latest release the other day and I definitely dig it. The same label that brought you It’s In My Veins by Fever Pitch now brings you I’ve Been Thinking by The Occupants.
I’ve Been Thinking has got an electronic, thought provoking sound that really gets you thinking (horrific pun intended!). It’s continuous synthy bass and popping snare set the stage for the track’s spacey vocals. Bonus points for the Aussies once I had the revelation that the beginning of the song bears a striking resemblance to the classic by Phil Collins: In the Air Tonight — right down to the vocals.
The Occupants are a brand new project of Flynn and Luke Gower who’s past band, Cog, met an untimely, abrupt, and “mysterious” end. When Cog dissolved, the Gower brothers took up the new moniker of The Occupants, and began experimenting to find their sound. After many trials and tribulations of tinkering with their style, the brothers are finally satisfied with what they have in their first release: I’ve Been Thinking. The band put out a statement regarding the development of their project, which simply stated:
“We’ve been writing and experimenting for a while now with new ideas and new sounds developing along the way.We reached a point where we looked at this particular track and thought ‘This feels good. This is a song worth sharing.”
Once they realized that they had something to work with, the duo ventured to the studio with producer Forrester Savell and emerged with I’ve Been Thinking. Well guys, thank you for thinking, because you’ve thought up a great new tune and unique sound for your new project. Keep up the good work down under and keep giving people a reason to Get Your Earz Wet!
