Good news! Passion Pit has released the official video for Cry Like A Ghost, one of the many fabulous tracks from last year’s Gossamer. The album was a spectacular piece of danceable electro-pop that brought Passion Pit into the national spotlight. Despite being electronic-based, the album tugs at the listeners emotions and feels incredibly human. While the album sounds extremely positive and upbeat, lead singer Michael Angelakos said he was in a very dark, lonely place while recording. The Cry Like a Ghost video expands on that idea by tapping into the broken heart of a girl named Sylvia flashing back on past failed romances.
The video follows the poor girl as she emerges from the woods, like something out of a horror movie, and begins bouncing from guy to guy in chaotic fury of lust, confusion and regret. Like something out a bad dream, the video culminates with all her exes together dancing in one room as if possessed. The girl ends up by herself in a sad tale of fleeting, hopeless romance.
The video is directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, who work together under the moniker DANIELS and have directed videos for Foster the People and The Shins, among others. I was blown away by some of the shots they used to create such a exhausting fever dream. Brilliant job guys!
Passion Pit is currently touring through South America but will be heading back to the states to play a handful of festivals, including Coachella as well as Kanrocksas. Check out the video below and give Gossamer a listen if you haven’t already. Get Your Earz Wet!
